Mission

Since 1974 CMSA
has provided quality health care to central Pennsylvanians. Today 60 providers
offer primary and specialty medical care, surgery, and diagnostic services
to the community.
Our
Mission
Centre Medical and
Surgical Associates, P.C. is a private multi-specialty medical practice
which provides primary and specialty health care to the entire family.
Our services focus on preventive care to maintain good health, as well
as diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic management of medical conditions.
We strive to be ever responsive to the medical needs of the surrounding
community without regard to gender, age, race, sexual preference, creed,
national origin, or religion.
We Endeavor To:
- Achieve the highest
standards of medical care.
- Provide health
services at competitive fees.
- Recognize, accommodate,
and serve each patient's individual needs.
- Make each patient's
visit to CMSA a pleasant and beneficial experience.
- Maintain our strong
commitment to the community.
History
Response to community
need has always been the central theme of our history. Before 1974, subspecialty
medical care was available only in large health centers, long distances
from Centre County. In July of that year, Dr.
Jonathan Dranov established an Internal
Medicine and Nephrology practice
in downtown State College bringing subspecialty medical care to the region
for the first time. He also developed the region's first kidney dialysis
unit at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Since that time,
the practice has grown and expanded its range of services. In 1980 the
4-physician group relocated to Boalsburg Medical Offices where it added
a clinical laboratory and radiology facility. The medical practice was
incorporated in 1983 to become Internal Medicine Associates of State College,
P.C. [IMA].

A strong need for
primary care in the Bellefonte area led to the establishment of an affiliated
office, Internal Medicine Associates of
Bellefonte, in 1989. Then in 1993 the Bellefonte practice relocated
to a newly renovated medical office complex at 141 Medical Park Lane,
just off Route 26.

In 1994, having outgrown
the Boalsburg office, Internal Medicine Associates of State College relocated
to the new Centre Medical Sciences Building. This 40,000 square-foot facility
allowed us to expand our service menu to keep up with technological advances
as well as meet the growing needs of the community.

In January 1997,
IMA merged with Centre Pediatric Associates.
Dr. George M. McCormick established this practice in 1976 in the Glennland
Building on Pugh Street. The following year Dr. Steven B. Vore joined
the practice, and it continued to grow to five physicians by the time
of its merger with IMA.
OB/GYN
Group of State College joined IMA on January 1, 1998. Dr. Charles
W. Rohrbeck had returned to his hometown of State College in 1964 to begin
his practice in obstetrics and gynecology. After Drs. Paul H. Wengrovitz
and Tom S. Mebane III joined the practice in 1969 and 1976 respectively,
they established OB-GYN Group of State College, Inc. The practice was
located at Parkway Medical Center and later relocated to the Centre Medical
Sciences Building in 1996.
Our newest affiliate
merged with IMA on February 1, 1998. Barnes,
Hendricks and Associates brought to the practice general, thoracic,
and vascular surgery performed at Mount Nittany Medical Center. The department
later added oncology surgery and neurosurgery to their list of services.
Their office is located in Boalsburg.
With the addition
of pediatrics, OB/GYN, and surgery, it became apparent that the name "Internal
Medicine Associates", would no longer adequately describe our range of
services. Thus in 1999 the practice was renamed Centre Medical and Surgical
Associates, P.C. [CMSA].
CMSA entered into
a strategic alliance with Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center
in 2003. This provides the opportunity for faculty appointments for qualified
CMSA physicians, joint recruitment efforts, participation in research
activities and clinical trials, clinical rotations for residents in our
offices, and information technology sharing.
Currently CMSA has a staff
of over 270 including 66 providers practicing 17 medical specialties.
Our offices are located in State College, Boalsburg, Bellefonte, and Huntingdon.
CMSA offers an array of services including nuclear cardiology, bone densitometry,
pulmonary function testing, echocardiography, nerve conduction studies,
cardiovascular stress testing, outpatient chemotherapy, allergy treatment,
ultrasound, laboratory and radiology.
Our
Future
High quality medical
care provided by a team of professionals is what patients have come to
expect from CMSA, the group that led the way in establishing subspecialty
medicine in Centre County. The practice will meet the challenge of the
future in the same tradition: always at the leading edge in responding
to community needs, whether with advanced technology, additional subspecialties,
or increased levels of service.
