Dermatology
diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails.
The more common conditions include acne, warts, psoriasis, eczema,
rosacea, and fungal infections of the scalp, skin, and nails. Even
more important, Dr. Bonnett diagnoses
and treats all types of skin cancers, including malignant melanoma.
Procedures for treating dermatological conditions may include: minor
surgery including biopsy of suspicious lesions; excision of moles,
cysts, and skin cancers; cryosurgery (freezing) of lesions where
appropriate; prescription of topical or oral medications; chemical
peel for acne and skin rejuvenation; and sclerotherapy - injections
to minimize the appearance of leg veins.
Laser
Services
The laser is
an energy source in the form of highly concentrated light that can
be precisely directed to transform the skin. Using state-of-the-art
laser systems, our dermatologist is able to selectively treat various
types of skin problems such as unwanted hair, leg veins, facial
veins and pigmented skin lesions, without damaging the surrounding
normal tissue.
Hair Removal
Typical areas
of hair removal are the upper lip, chin, underarms, bikini area,
back, and legs. Effective hair removal usually requires from 3 to
5 sessions. The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through
the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The laser energy
is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle leaving
the surrounding skin unchanged. The skin is protected during treatment
by a dynamic cooling process providing patients increased comfort.
Skin Lesions
Many unsightly
skin lesions can now be treated easily and effectively using cosmetic
laser therapy. We provide safe and effective treatments for men
and women to remove:
- Facial veins
- Leg veins
- Freckles
- Age spots
- Brown marks
Results of
laser therapy on skin lesions can be quite dramatic. Most people
experience an improvement in their vascular or pigmented lesions.
However, as in any surgical procedure, there remains a possibility
that only minor changes will occur and occasionally there are some
cases which do not respond.
