Gastroenterologists
diagnose and treat disease of the entire digestive tract: esophagus,
stomach, intestine, gallbladder, pancrea, colon, and rectum. Hepatology,
a related specialty, evalutes and treats liver disease. Endoscopy
is a valuable tool for evaluating and treating disorders. A small
flexible tube is introduced into the digestive tract, allowing the
physician to perform biopsies or other therapeutic procedures. Endoscopies
are performed at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Dr.
Mandetta also performs other diagnostic procedures to evaluate
motility (movement of food through the tract) and malabsorption
(poor use of the food by the system) disorders. Some of the disorders
